ON THE ROLE OF HOOKE'S LAW IN THE COURSE OF GENERAL PHYSICS

Abstract:
In this paper, it is shown that Hooke's law is just a banal linearization of the elastic force by deformation. This means that there is not and cannot be a finite "domain of proportionality" in which Hooke's law is exactly fulfilled. A timely explanation of the linearization nature of Hooke's law allows students to discuss the issue of linear and nonlinear physics at the beginning of the physics course, as well as discuss the principle of superposition, which is fundamental for any linear systems. In addition, it allows you to significantly save learning time without reducing the quality of learning when explaining many other physical laws that also have a linearization character

Keywords:
Hooke's law, area of proportionality, area of elasticity, linearization, principle of superposition
