Abstract:
Based on the electrodynamics of a continuous medium and thermodynamics, the main manifestations of the ponderomotive forces acting in ferromagnetics and nonlinear materials are considered. Methods of solving problems on this topic are discussed using specific examples. Special attention is paid to the boundary conditions in which the manifestation of the ponderomotive forces is observed. This topic is one of the most complex in the «Electromagnetism» section of the general physics course. The inaccuracies and errors found in the literature when presenting this topic are analyzed.
