ABSTRACTS NATURAL SCIENCE IN A TECHNOLOGICAL SOCIETY A. D. Gladun "Stankin" Moscow State Technological University The relevance and role of the natural sciences in modern society are discussed. It is shown that in a technological society, the most important factor is not so much the quantity of energy used, but the possibility that this energy use may be concentrated in small volumes over small time intervals. This concentration disturbs the biogeochemical cycles of the biosphere, giving rise to urgent problems in the anthropogenic ecology channel. This must be reflected in the teaching of natural science disciplines in high schools and universities. PHYSICS: THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE V. G. The Physics and Technology Correspondence School (PTCS) conducts individualized programs for high school students lasting four, three, two, or one year. THE PHYSICS ENTRANCE EXAM FOR THE MOSCOW AVIATION INSTITUTE G. G. Spirin and E. L. Studnikov Moscow Aviation Institute (Technical University) The authors summarize their experience in working in preparatory courses (four), the preparatory department, and a wide network of special schools and special classes in Moscow and the surrounding area (roughly sixty). The pre-university activities in the network are conducted according to coordinated plans oriented not only toward the program of entrance exams, but also toward the rapid adaptation of students to study in a general physics program. Most teachers in the Moscow Aviation Institute physics department work in the pre-university preparation network. Ten examples of exam cards used for university entrants in 1996 are considered. L'vovskaya Teacher, Physics School No. 1126 The use of the "Living Physics" computer environment in physics exercises can help decrease difficulties among ninth-grade students, associated with the lack of skills in the analysis of various physics problems using fundamental physical concepts such as velocity, acceleration, mass, force, momentum, and energy. This program package, developed for use on Macintosh computers, makes it possible to simulate on the computer screen various physics problems and observe physical phenomena in an animated regime. A COMPUTER METHOD FOR TEACHING ELEVENTH-GRADE PHYSICS M. B. The use of computer exercises in physics classes makes it possible to visually present complex physical phenomena, often not reproducible using school demonstration equipment.
