We develop a theory of non-resonant response of a single atom with an arbitrary value of electron angular momentum and its relative direction to the electromagnetic field vector polarization. It is shown that the atomic current response has the tensor structure and depends on both atom angular momentum direction and external field polarization vector. Methods of the atomic spectrum response control by external field parameters tuning has been proposed.
